Under the wise leadership of Eteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov, our country is implementing program-based measures to modernize the education system and train qualified specialists. The Head of State emphasizes that international scientific conferences contribute to the development of cooperation in science and education and assigns the task of organizing such events in this field.

On November 6, the Turkmen Agricultural University named after S.A. Niyazov hosted an international scientific-practical conference on “Sustainable Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex,” organized in a digital format in cooperation with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan. Students, professors, and scientists from higher educational institutions of our country, along with representatives from prestigious foreign universities of Turkey, Uzbekistan, Romania, Malaysia, the Russian Federation, Belarus, and the Islamic Republic of Iran, as well as partner universities of the Turkmen Agricultural University, attended this international scientific-practical conference, organized to fulfill tasks defined in the “International Cooperation Strategy of Turkmen Youth for 2023–2030” and in the concepts adopted in the education system.

The participants began by exploring an exhibition presenting products of the country's agro-industrial complex, various fields of agricultural sciences, and scientific projects aimed at achieving the Sustainable Development Goals. As noted in the speeches at the plenary session, holding the international scientific-practical conference “Sustainable Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex” on the eve of the Harvest Festival, during a period of preparation for the Year of International Peace and Trust and the celebration of our nation’s remarkable Neutrality Day, holds special significance.

This conference provided broad opportunities for discussing the scientific foundations of achieving sustainable development in the agro-industrial complex, which is regarded as one of the key conditions for ensuring food security, and for exchanging views on important areas of training specialists in this field. Esteemed President Serdar Berdimuhamedov notes, «We tightly link the development of the agro-industrial complex with science and high technologies». As emphasized by the Head of State, the agricultural sector of the country is one of the main sectors of the national economy.

The conference participants also watched performances by art enthusiasts at the university's “Golden Age” Cultural Center.

The conference then continued in three sections: “Agronomy, Gardening, and Ecology,” “Economics and Management in the Agro-Industrial Complex, Humanities, Mathematics, Agroengineering,” and “Food Industry, Innovative Technologies in Water Economy, Animal Husbandry and Veterinary Medicine, Light Industry.” As noted, the agrarian reforms of the esteemed President, including his signing of the decree “On the Reorganization of the Ministry of Agriculture of Turkmenistan” on February 9, 2024, the establishment of research institutes for grain growing, farming, and cotton farming on November 2, 2023, and the initiative to create a modern agricultural town with a university and research institutes in the city of Arkadag, contribute to the further development of reforms in the sector. The speakers also highlighted the high yield and quality of new wheat varieties, such as “Serdar,” “Arkadag,” and “Pyragy,” developed at the Research Institute of Grain Growing.

The conference participants noted that in 2015, the United Nations adopted the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, and Turkmenistan actively participated in its development, becoming one of the first countries to officially adopt all 17 Sustainable Development Goals. As is known, the second Sustainable Development Goal is titled “End hunger, achieve food security and improved nutrition, and promote sustainable agriculture.” As noted by Hero Arkadag in his book “Turkmenistan on the Way to Achieving the Sustainable Development Goals,” a program-based system of state support for the agro-industrial complex was developed in the country and is successfully functioning. Major state investments are directed toward improving the structure of the agro-industrial complex and service sectors, technical re-equipment, including the creation of enterprises for processing agricultural products, factories for the production of mineral fertilizers, improving irrigation and reclamation conditions, developing seed production, science, and breeding, as well as introducing advanced resource-saving technologies and the latest scientific and technical developments into production.

As highlighted in Turkmenistan’s Voluntary National Review on implementing the global Sustainable Development Agenda in 2023, Turkmenistan ensures the sustainable development of agricultural production, which is necessary to maintain and strengthen the achieved level of food security and ensure healthy nutrition for all segments of the population.

The approval of the “Strategy for the Development of the Scientific Sphere in Turkmenistan for 2024–2052” this year sets the task of realizing the broad opportunities of agricultural sciences in this area. The adoption of the “State Program for the Comprehensive Development of Biotechnology in Turkmenistan for 2024–2028” and the effective use of agro-biotechnology to achieve sustainable development goals create extensive opportunities.

Participants of the international scientific-practical conference on “Sustainable Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex,” held digitally, expressed their deepest gratitude to the Esteemed President and Hero Arkadag for such significant achievements and visionary agrarian reforms. They wished Hero Arkadag and Arkadagly Hero Serdar sound health, long lives, and continuous success in their noble endeavors to develop the agro-industrial complex and agricultural sciences, which serve as models for the world in the Era of Revival of the New Epoch of the Powerful State.

Then, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education of Turkmenistan, the Turkmen Agricultural University organized a scientific project competition dedicated to Harvest Holiday, titled "Scientific educated Youth is the Future of Our Country." The competition was combined with the international scientific-practical conference "Sustainable Development of the Agro-Industrial Complex." The results of the conference were conveyed to a wide readership in the form of abstracts of the speeches.
